With Corona sweeping across the globe, getting clinical trial subjects has never been so critical. However, the challenges of recruiting volunteers for clinical trials has been there always. Successfully recruiting patients for randomized clinical trial is of greatest challenge. Inadequacy in retaining patients might produce inconclusive results in the trials. Communication is key in removing confusions, assuaging concerns and retaining subjects for future trials.

Studies shows that lack of awareness about clinical trials (37%), socio-cultural issues (37%) and complexity of protocols (38%) are the main challenges in subject recruitment. Majority of the patients feel that enhancement of awareness is necessary.

Some of the key challenges are due to lack of awareness and confusions regarding the various proptocols and the process of clinical trials. Negative publicity by media about clinical trials does not help the situation. Add to that extensive paperwork related to consent forms and lack of knowledge among the patients regarding the complex study designs create further hurdle in recruiting clinical trial patients.
